Connections with other Clans
Clan Hay and Clan Leask
In 1456 a Bond of Manrent was signed by Unfra Leask of that Ilk, the 3rd Leask Chief, in favour of William Hay, Earl of Errol, Chief of the Clan Hay; this pledged the support of the Clan Leask in all times of trouble.
A very close link with the Hays has been maintained ever since, and it was their support at the International Clan Gathering in Edinburgh in 1981 that made possible the Clan Leask’s participation and resultant formation, at our Gathering in Edinburgh Castle, of the birth of the Clan Leask Association.
This close connection, to the present day, is demonstrated by the regular attendence of Leasks at the Annual Hay Ball in Aberdeenshirewhich is held on the evening of the Aboyne Highland Games, where the Hays and Leasks have their Clan Tents close together and open to welcome all visitors from far and near for a chat on Family History and Family Connections – all part of the Clan Leask Society’s objectives of family, friendship and fun.
